Airbus A380 - Toulouse

Toulouse, at about 1.5 hours driving from Camping La Brouquere, is the Airbus assembly centre where the A330/A340 airplanes are being assembled. The biggest Airbus airplane, the A380 is also assembled in this factory in Toulouse. Throughout the year, Airbus organizes interesting visits and guided tours through the assembly lines of this factory at the airport in Toulouse. An excellent idea for a great daytrip!

Visits and guides tours - Airbus A330/A340/A380

Airbus is organising two separate visits and guided tours (in either French or English):

  • Clément Ader Tour - A330/A340
    This guided tour will take you over the airport to the loading platform of the peculiar transport airplane called the 'Beluga'. Inside the factory you will visit the assembly lines of the A330 and A340 airplanes.
  • Jean-Luc Lagardère Tour - A380
    This guided tour starts with a presentation of the Airbus A380 airplane programme. The tour continues with a visit of the plant with the assembly and test lines of this biggest Airbus airplane. You can extend this tour with a visit to the Concorde No°1, the very first Concorde to roll from the production line. This Concorde was used for test flights from 1973 until 1985. This airplane also carried VIPs such as the French president.

Special transport from Bordeaux to Toulouse

Parts of the fuselage of the Airbus A380 are being build in Germany and France, the gigantic wings are manufactured in the UK and other hydraulic systems such as ruthers and flaps come from Spain. All these oversize airplane parts are being assembled into one giant airplane in the Airbus assembly plant at the airport in Toulouse.

The individual airplane parts are first shipped to Bordeaux. Then these parts are loaded onto special trucks and transported during three nights to toulouse. One of the stops is at Eauze where the photo below was taken. The giant parking space is just 15km from Camping La Brouquere, and thus absolutely worth a visit.
