Fortified Villages - Sightseeing |
The Gers in South-West France is known for its historic fortified villages, or 'Bastides' as they are called here. Here you will find some of the most beautiful bastides in the Gers (Gascony), some of which are situated nearby Camping La Brouquere making them excellent tourist sightseeing destinations.
The
oldest bastide in the Gers is the fortified village of Montréal-du-Gers
build in 1255. In the 13th century many more bastides were build
in the Gers, each with its own atmosphere and presence. These
magnificent examples of ancient construction are certainly worth
visiting!

| Larressingle | In
this small fortified village you can really feel the medieval
atmosphere. Outside the fortress some ancient medieval warfare
machinery is demonstrated. Take the guided tour and stroll
along small shops and the little museum.

| Fourcès | The
architecture of this 14th century bastide in the Gers is still
very well preserved. This fortified village is almost perfectly
circular and is located just some 15km north of Camping La
Brouquere. Although very small, this tourist sightseeing destination
is highly recommended, especially when there is a local market.
